Prevention
All measures aimed at preventing the transmission of HBV prevent the transmission of HDV. Many preventative measures are thus focused on public education of risky practices.
HBV vaccination is also recommended to avoid HBV-HDV coinfection. First-degree relatives and sexual partners of patients with hepatitis D infection are usually advised to be tested for HBV serological markers (HBsAg, anti-HBc, anti-HBs) and to be vaccinated if they are negative for these markers.
